I came across this story while I was flipping through the channels this afternoon and thought to myself, “what better time to start actually writing news stories on my blog”, so here it is. At least a dozen people were injured in a shooting at a New Orleans Mother’s Day parade in the city’s 7th ward, the youngest of the victims is believed to be a 10 year-old girl who was grazed by one of the stray bullets. According to one of the reports none of the injuries seem to be life threatening, however, four people did need to go in for surgery.
Police are apparently looking for three people in connection with the shooting but no one has been arrested yet. The neighborhood where the parade was taking place is one of the cities low-income areas, this area is also only at about 60 percent of the population it was prior to Hurricane Katrina. In fact, most of the homes in the three block area of the street where the 400 person gathering took place are still boarded up from being damaged during the storm. I will keep you updated as more details are made available.
